Introducing the Relief Map Style

By Tim · 14 September 2026

You can now choose between two map styles for your print - Classic and our brand new Relief style. Here's what's changed.

A second way to see your route

Every Stories Mapped flight path print has always used the same tonal grey map underneath the route - clean, understated, and designed to keep the focus on the flight itself. That style is still here, and we're now calling it Classic.

Alongside it, we've added a new style called Relief. Instead of a flat grey landscape, Relief shows the real colour and shading of the terrain your flight passed over - the green of lowland, the ochre of mountains, the blue of open water - so the geography underneath your route feels more like an actual place.

Same route, same price, just a different feel

Choosing between Classic and Relief doesn't change anything else about your custom flight map. It's the same accurate route data, the same sizes and frame options, and the same price - it's a straightforward style choice on the product page, right next to size and finish.

We've made Relief the default, since it's the style most people have preferred when previewing both side by side, but Classic is one click away if the plainer tonal look is more your taste.

Why we added it

A few customers told us they loved the concept but wanted the map itself to feel a little more alive - something that read as a real landscape rather than an abstract background. Relief is our answer to that, without giving up the clean, uncluttered look that makes these prints work as art in the first place.

We're still photographing Relief prints in every size and finish, so if you spot a combination without its own photo yet, that's on the way rather than missing on purpose.
